Advance Monthly Retail Trade Survey Update: sales fall 1.5%

According to the September 2009 Advance Monthly Retail Trade Survey from the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. retail and food service sales fell 1.5%. This is the second slip for U.S. retail and food service sales in the past five months, with a revised 0.2% dip in July. Total sales for the July-September 2009 period were 6.6% lower than the same period in 2008, and September 2009 sales were 6.4% lower than in August 2008.
